In a heat application process the seams are heated to melt the asphalt together and create a seal. There is also hot-mopped application, similar to how conventional built-up roofs are installed. Cold-applied adhesives and self-adhesive membranes are two of the more recent options. This material is also referred to as APP and SBS Membranes.
APP Modified Bitumen Roofing Systems are available in a variety of thicknesses in smooth and granule surfaces. They are reinforced with a strong, non-woven polyester mat. APP membranes deliver superior rooftop performance for both new and reroofing applications. APP membranes can be installed by heat welding or with cold-applied adhesives.
SBS rubber is flexible and has the memory to return to its original form. The addition of SBS rubber to asphalt increases the flow characteristics and improves the low-temperature flexibility and fatigue resistance of roofing asphalt. The end product is a high-performance, 2-3 ply system.
Granule non-woven polyester mat that is coated with flexible, SBS polymer-modified asphalt and is surfaced with mineral granules. Also available in APP smooth and granule versions. It is designed for new roofing and reroofing applications, as well as flashings.
